Jeremy Bartlett, Norwich

"Last spring we bought a 1920s semi-detached house with single skin walls and no cavities. Although this winter has been warmer than average the walls were very cold and we had bad condensation and mould. Bags of flour went mouldy in the cupboards.

Three weeks ago we had external wall insulation fitted and the walls are now warm and dry and the house is comfortable to live in. External wall insulation makes such a difference.

But we are fortunate - we could afford to have this done (£6000 after a 40% grant). We need to transform our old housing stock by insulating walls wherever possible, with help for those who cannot afford this. It will provide construction jobs, save energy and help to prevent fuel poverty."
