Energy Bill Revolution launches in Parliament!

April 27th, 2012

The Energy Bill Revolution campaign was successfully launched in Parliament yesterday at an event hosted by five different parliamentary all-party groups.  The event, chaired by BBC journalist Julian O’Halloran, was attended by 100 people.

The MPs Peter Aldous (Conservative), Alan Whitehead (Labour), Tom Brake (LibDem) and Caroline Lucas (Green) set out why they were backing the campaign and wanted to see more done to tackle fuel poverty.  Finally, our own Martyn Williams, who is leading the parliamentary push for the Energy Bill Revolution, urged people to join the campaign – saying we would only win with widespread and active support.

All the MPs stressed the moral importance of ending fuel poverty and cutting our carbon emissions – and all pointed out the energy efficiency was the most effective and cheapest way to do this.

Martyn said:  “It was fantastic to see the cross-party agreement that this campaign so badly needs. It’s a great springboard into Parliament for the campaign. We have 120 MPs now signed up to our petition in support of the Energy Bill Revolution. With continued public support we aim to make it 200 by the summer.”
